About EFT (Energy Psychology) EFT is a form of Energy Psychology. Energy Psychology is also known as Meridian Tapping Techniques, MTT. Energy Psychology is a group of new treatment procedures based on the principles of acupuncture and acupressure. It can be thought of as acupressure for psychological issues. In 1997 the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health endorsed acupuncture for the treatment of nausea and dental pain. They also said that there was evidence that acupuncture may be effective for addiction, stroke, rehabilitation, headache, menstrual cramps, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and asthma. In the United States in the 1960s, Dr. George Goodheart, a chiropractor, developed the field of applied kinesiology which includes percussing (tapping) acupuncture points. In the 1980s, a psychiatrist, Dr. John Diamond, and a psychologist, Roger Callahan, Ph.D., applied Dr. Goodheart's procedures to psychological issues. Their work lead to the development of the field now called "Energy Psychology" or "Meridian Tapping Techniques." Gary Craig studied under Dr. Callahan and developed a simplified version of energy psychology he calls Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT. I studied under Dr. Callahan and Mr. Craig. My research, consulting, coaching, and clinical experience have shown that Energy Psychology is a powerful treatment method with wide application. I use EFT as the foundation of my energy psychology work. I also apply more advanced energy psychology procedures developed by leading innovators in the field, all as an overlay on sound counseling psychology principles. Watch a short video on EFT.
